IKEA Table Makeover

IKEA Table Makeover
Hi Pin Junkie Readers! It's Jodie from Sypsie Designs, and I'm so excited to share our Pinterest-inspired project with you!  I run our blog along with my sister, Paige, and we focus on all things home decor and crafty projects, and we especially love making over old furniture pieces!  This Ikea hack coffee table pinned from Rose Gold Walls to our "furniture inspiration" board on Pinterest was the inspiration for our Ikea table makeover.

Right now I'm in the process of updating all of the IKEA and plain-jane furniture in my apartment, and this was the perfect opportunity to tackle this little side table from the living room.

This table looks a lot like the IKEA Lack table, but it's actually the version from Target. But, this project could of course work for either : ) I decided to transform it into a more farmhouse-esk piece by utilizing paint and wood, in the same colors as we used on our IKEA desk makeover. First things first, was prepping the wood for the top. For the 18" table top, it took one 1x5 cut in four 18" pieces. My favorite way to stain is to use a coat of black tea, followed by a mixture of vinegar and steel wool. This particular stain used apple cider vinegar to give it a richer tone.

After everything was dry, there was a quick light sanding to even out the color, and then two coats of a clear satin Polycrylic was applied to protect the surface from any type of dish/toy/animal that may get set on it. You just never know : )

Next up was painting the table! A homemade chalk paint in Behr's Swiss Coffee was applied to the sanded legs and sides. About three coats covered the piece and a clear wax was added as even more protection.

The wood pieces were added once the paint was dry using a heavy duty wood glue, and this project was done!

The project cost between $5-$10 to do, and made a big impact in the living room compared to the before version- all thanks to some Pinterest inspiration of course! Thanks so much to Bonnie for having us, we hope you enjoyed our project!
