Make Your Own Instant Hot Cocoa Mix

Make Your Own Instant Hot Cocoa Mix

As soon as there's a chill in the air, I crave something warm to drink and when its cold outside, there's nothing better than a warm cup of hot cocoa!  I love curling up with a snuggly sweater, a good book, and a warm cup of hot cocoa made with this easy mix.  Now I like a cup of real hot cocoa with real milk, chocolate, and marshmallows just as much as anyone else, but sometimes the instant stuff is just as good.  Plus it's nice to have some on hand whenever you feel like enjoying a cup.  You can save some money by making it yourself, too.   You might want to make extra though.  Keep one batch for yourself and the extra one makes a nice gift!  Just put this instant hot cocoa mix in a mason jar and it's ready to go.  It's great for when you need a quick inexpensive present for a Christmas or hostess gift.

Ingredients:
2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa
1/2 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
a dash of salt

Directions:
To make the mix:
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.  Store mix in an air tight container.

To make the hot cocoa:
Combine 1/4 cup cocoa mix and 3/4 cup hot water in a mug.  Stir to blend.

Enjoy!

  5. I am pinning this because soon it will be hot cocoa season and we go through a boat load. Have you ever tried using dutch cocoa or special hersey's dark. I am kinda a big "dark chocolate" lover and I wondered if the recipe would still work with a more chocolately powder.

    1. I've seen the dark chocolate Hershey's cocoa but haven't tried it, although I should. I really like dark chocolate and it would probably be great in hot cocoa. Thanks for the good idea!

    2. For an extra velvety flavour, use 1/4 cup of cream, especially Coffee Mate's Italian Sweet Cream in addition to the water.

  6. Found this posted on Ginger Snap Crafts blog hop and I am so glad I saw this. I LOVE hot chocolate, but hate the cost for a few packets. I also love the idea of putting in a mason jar and giving as a gift at Christmas. I might have to steal that idea and give it with mini marshmallows and peppermint sticks. Pinned :)
