Looking Forward

Earlier this week I looked back at some of the projects that I'd done over the past year and some of the things that I've learned.  Today I want to look forward and share some of my goals for the next year of blogging.

I used Pinterest to help me update my laundry room and a hall bathroom.  Finishing those two small rooms has given me the confidence to upadate some of the other rooms in my home.  I'd really like a new kitchen.  Mine is old and worn out.  The cabinets are original to the house built in the late 70's.  The cabinets are dark wood and have already been painted once, but the paint has chipped and cracked in several places.  I really hate the funky pattern on the doors!

I've got some good ideas pinned to my Pinterest kitchen inspiration board.  What I'd really like to do is get brand new cabinets, but they're just so expensive!  I'm thinking that replacing the cabinet doors, using different hinges, and giving the cabinets a fresh coat of paint will help.  I also want to remove the wallpaper.  This is the kitchen back splash.  Now imagine this wallpaper all over the kitchen and dining room!

I think something like small tile on the back splash would be so much prettier!  I like this tile from Lowe's.  It has the same colors, but it's more updated and modern.

I'd like a new counter too.  Something that's not pink or cheapo laminate.  It doesn't stand up well to teenage boys.

Giving the kitchen a makeover is a big project and makes me overwhelmed every time I think about it.  So then I start thinking about the master bedroom because it needs an update too.  Check out the sponge paint and stencils from 1987!

I'm sure just giving this room a fresh coat of paint will do a lot to change the look and feel of this bedroom.  I also need to find a way to update this room without having to replace the furniture, which would be expensive.  Besides trying to bring my house kicking and screaming into the 21st century, in March of next year I plan on running my very first 5K run.  This is probably the only thing I've tried from my fitness board.  I've been working at it slowly and using the Couch To 5K Program (which I found of Pinterest of course!)  to help me.

I'm really looking forward to attending my very first blog conference in February 2014.  I'm going to the Build Your Blog conference in Utah.  I'd love to know if anybody else is going.  Has anyone attended this conference in the past?  What did you think?

And of course I still have a ton of projects and recipes to try out on my craft and recipe boards and I still have a long list of destinations I'd like to travel to.  Here's hoping I can get it all done next year!

  2. Entire room renovations can be really overwhelming. I've always heard that it's most helpful to take it one step at a time. Maybe if you start by priming the walls white in the master bedroom so that they're ready for whatever color you choose to use that will help you look at the space and see what actually stands out as dated when the walls are updated? And maybe you can either paint your bedroom furniture to update it or just change the knobs to something cute/modern that you like? Good luck! I'm sure you'll figure out something great!

    1. I think you're right. Taking things one thing at a time is the best approach. I stained the bedroom furniture years ago, so painting them would be just as easy. I like the idea of changing the knobs, too. Thanks so much for your advice!
